Trying Again

Once again, I have failed the blogging world. Not that it really matters because my readership is nil, but it is a good way for me to journal so I should make a little more of an effort. And since my life is so exciting everyone should have to opportunity to read about it.

I am now in my 4th year of my PhD program, year 10 of higher education. . . . That is a really long time.

I'm headed to London next week with my Chair and a group of undergrads.

Yes, It has been a while

I kind of forgot that I had a blog. . . .

And then I get on here and see I have comments. I was super excited to read all of those, as it means that someone took time to read up on my boring life as of a year ago, so I thought I would post again. Drum roll please. . . .

Let's see, I just finished my second year of my PhD program and I am happy to say I am through with all the Economics from the Econ PhD department. The courses were killer, and I am happy to say that through divine intervention, I was able to survive! And I even surpassed some of the Econ PhD students on exams, so that gave me a boost.

The program is amazing, though it does have it's constant ups and downs. Depending on the day my mom will either hear that things are amazing and I am really excited about everything that is going on, or that it is terrible and I am going to drop out. But in talking to other PhD students, I am finding out that this is normal. That makes me feel slightly better.

I take my comprehensive exams the end of June so till then I should be feverishly studying. I will emphasize the should, as you can see by me taking time to post a blog, I'm struggling to stay on task. .

So, maybe I can use this medium as a means of journaling (since I am lax in writing in the physical form). We'll see if I can be effective in this capacity.

This past week I traveled to Lake Tahoe to attend a doctoral consortium with the AAA (American Accounting Association). Sounds pretty exciting I know, but I was able to meet some awesome individuals and I learned a lot. The attendees at the consortium were one PhD student from about 100 different universities. The highlight of the conference was the use of the term grammatacentric panopticism. Now there is a great word.

Now it is back to the grind though and a continuance of teaching my class. I think the class is going well, and the mid-term scores weren't too shabby. (Though I do question whether it was due to my teaching skills, or their ability to read the text. . . )
